Chapter 229: Back in Tower
Leon touched the corpse and muttered, "It's still warm. Blood is still flowing... which means I've returned at the exact moment I left."
He stepped out of the hidden dungeon, and just outside the entrance, he found four unconscious figures—the other four adventurers who had been with him in the Abyss Dungeon.
A smile appeared on Leon's face as he saw them. Just then, the ground rumbled, and a monstrous wave of water surged toward them.
"Flood!!" Dren shouted, suddenly waking up in a panic.
Lyric, the rogue, leapt to her feet, eyes darting around as she instinctively reached for her daggers. Kara stirred next, quickly grabbing her massive shield and bracing herself. Lastly, Marian opened her eyes and swiftly cast a golden barrier around herself.
"Relax, it was me," Leon said as the wave dissipated. He stood before them, his presence calm but commanding.
Dren rushed at him, clinging dramatically. "W-Whoa! We thought you died!" he cried.
Leon casually kicked him away. "Get off me, idiot."
"It's good to see you're alive," Lyric said with a smirk, the others nodding in agreement, relieved.
"But... where is Lady Roselia?" Marian asked, looking around and not seeing the tall, regal figure.
"She's resting. She got injured, so she'll be out for a while," Leon replied.
They nodded, understanding. Being one of Leon's trusted companions, Roselia could hide herself or rest somewhere safe when needed. No one questioned her absence further—they trusted Leon's words.
"Let's go back. Lady Luna will be waiting for our return," said Dren, smiling.
Marian nodded, and the others followed. "We got a lot from that dungeon. We thought it was just a forgotten ruin, but it turned out to be filled with mana crystals. We'll be rich selling them all," Lyric added, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
"Yeah, let's get it handled," Leon said with a small smile—only for it to vanish as five Liches suddenly appeared in front of them.
"Get them!" one of the Liches hissed telepathically, their eyes glowing and mana surging as they prepared for battle.
"Whoa! Lord Leon is acting fast!" Dren shouted, watching Leon already moving before they could react.
Marian, however, felt a strange chill as she stared at the Liches—and at Leon. "Sir Leon… has changed," she whispered to herself.
He looked the same, fought the same, and spoke the same… yet something was different. Whatever had happened in that hidden dungeon—it had touched something deep inside him.
But Marian kept those thoughts to herself… for now.
Leon easily killed all those Liches as they were merely tier II Liches.
"Where did they come from?" Leon asked, eyes narrowing as the Liches fell one by one under his group's assault.
Dren scratched his head and replied, "Have you forgotten? The Abyss Dungeon just keeps resetting. In 24 hours, it'll be back to normal again. I think we triggered more enemies when we exited from the hidden side. Most of the stronger ones are already reawakened."
Leon nodded, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. "That just means more loot, then," he said as he dashed forward again, slicing through another undead with ease. The group quickly cleaned up the last of the enemies and began their return.
As they stepped out of the darkened forest path, a familiar sight welcomed them—tall towers, bustling streets, and high stone walls bathed in the glow of the setting sun.
"Bluewind City…" Leon murmured, his voice touched with nostalgia. "I missed it."
"Hoh! Are you really that in love with Lady Luna that just a week of absence is enough to make you sentimental?" Dren laughed, nudging Leon with his elbow.
Leon just smiled faintly, not saying a word.
Lyric whistled. "Oof, look at that expression. That's the face of a man who's already married in his heart."
Kara chuckled. "Let's not tease too much. He did carry us through the Abyss Dungeon, remember?"
Leon finally spoke, his tone calm. "It's not just her. This city… it holds too many memories. Good ones. Ones worth protecting."
The group quieted down for a moment, letting the weight of his words settle in as they approached the city gates.
As they reached the gates, they were surprised to find Luna standing there with other knights of the city awaiting them.
"Welcome back, hero of Blue Wind City, Sir Leon," Luna said with a bright smile, bowing slightly in respect.
Leon frowned in confusion as cheers erupted around him. Luna approached, her expression filled with warmth.
"What is this?" Leon asked, bewildered by the reception.
Luna chuckled softly, clasping her hands together. "We already know. Thanks to you, Sir Leon, the menace of the Abyss Dungeon has been eradicated. The dungeon is now safe to enter without fear of endless spawning monsters. Your name will be remembered as the one who restored peace."
Leon raised a brow, skeptical. "How do you know this already?"
Luna glanced over her shoulder as if hesitant to answer. "Oh, it was due to—"
Before she could finish, a soft laugh interrupted them. Leon turned, his gaze landing on a figure emerging from the shadows—a stunning woman with a seductive aura. Her black wings and piercing red eyes gave away her true nature.
"Who are you?" Leon asked, his tone sharp as his hand instinctively moved toward his weapon.
The woman chuckled, bowing gracefully. "I am Myria, one of the seven seats under the Great Demon Lord of the Daemon Continent," she said smoothly, her voice laced with power.
"And what do you need?" Leon asked, his tone calm but wary as his Miracle Eyes scanned everyone present. Hmm… no one is being controlled, he noted silently.
"Nothing," Myria replied with a teasing smile. "I just wanted to see my childhood friend."
Leon raised an eyebrow as he led her aside, still keeping a close eye on her.
"I don't have any Succubus as a childhood friend," Leon said coldly.
Myria giggled, and in that moment, he noticed the subtle shift in the air—the faint release of charm magic. It was elegant, nearly undetectable, but Leon's senses were far too sharp to be fooled.
She isn't just any Succubus, Leon realized. She's a higher-tier one… and that charm wasn't ordinary.
Myria tilted her head, smirking as if enjoying the game.
"Oh, but memories can be so tricky, can't they?" she whispered.
Leon's eyes narrowed. He didn't know what game she was playing yet—but he was ready.
"My memories are fine. Speak—who are you?" Leon said firmly.
Luna, the City Lord of Blue Wind City, who had once welcomed Myria's approach thinking she was familiar with Leon, now frowned. Hearing Myria claim such a close bond made her reconsider. The moment Myria declared herself a childhood friend, Luna realized how deeply mistaken she might have been fooled.
"Knights, be ready," she ordered sharply, and two knights flanked her, weapons drawn but waiting.
Myria stood her ground, unfazed.
"I am Myria, childhood friend of Roselia of Deception," she said confidently.
Leon's Miracle Eyes flickered faintly as he watched her. She's not lying, he thought, surprised by the truth behind her words.
He slowly raised his hand in a calming gesture.
"Luna, stand down for now," he said calmly. "Let's not escalate things. If what she says is true, we need to talk."
Luna reluctantly lowered her hand, signaling the knights to ease up. But her eyes remained fixed on Myria, full of caution.
Leon turned back to Myria. "If you're really here for a conversation, let's go somewhere private. But if you're hiding anything..." His voice trailed off, the warning in it clear as day.
Myria smiled softly. "Then I hope you're ready to hear things you've long forgotten, Leon."
Leon didn't say anything as they returned quietly. On the way back, he glanced over the city.
To his surprise, he noticed many changes.
There were no more dividing walls between districts. The poor and the rich now walked the same streets. Nobles mingled freely with common folk. Merchants, children, and even former street beggars appeared cheerful and well-fed.
It was clear—the city had changed under Luna's rule.
The last lord had ruled through fear. People had lived day to day, terrified of punishment or death.
But now… many faces held smiles. Laughter echoed in alleys that once only knew silence.
Leon smiled as he saw all of this.
Leon allowed a faint smile as he took in the sights. The transformation was undeniable. The city felt alive again, but this time with hope and unity, rather than the fear that had once overshadowed it.
"Impressive," Leon muttered to himself, his eyes scanning the bustling streets. Luna had truly done something remarkable here, bringing prosperity to a place that once lived in shadows. The air felt lighter, as if a heavy weight had been lifted from the city.
Luna walked beside him, her face unreadable, but her eyes held a quiet pride. "It's not perfect yet, but we're getting there. One step at a time," she said, her voice low, but with a certain conviction.
"I can see that," Leon replied, his tone softer than usual. "You've done well."
"Thank you," she said with a small nod, but there was a flicker of something in her eyes, something unspoken.
The two continued through the city in silence, each lost in their thoughts as the people around them went about their day. The streets were lively, filled with merchants selling their wares, children playing, and families enjoying a peaceful afternoon. The once darkened city now seemed to glow with potential.
As they approached the castle, Leon felt a sense of relief. Despite the challenges ahead, he couldn't help but appreciate the progress. It was clear that Luna was more than capable of leading.
"Shall we continue inside?" Luna asked, breaking the silence.
Leon nodded. "Lead the way."
The gates of the castle opened, and they entered, ready to face whatever the next chapter held.
What do you think?
